About Us

If you're here chances are you were directed by one of our catchy posters. Its people like you that keep the advertising business going, thanks ever so much.

Seriously though, here's what we're about:
Hopkins Comedy Club is a mostly student run group. We are in the ComedySportz high school league in which groups from as many as FOUR high schools compete in some no holds barred comedic competition in the style of ComedySportz. For those of you who haven't seen a Comedy Sportz show, it's run along the lines of a football game (or baseball, or basketball, or whatever). Teams earn points by being the audience favorites in different improvisational comedy games. Improvisation is a long word for "we make it up." Thats right, it's all off the top of our heads without a second wasted to check to see if it makes sense. The games get pretty crazy, but there is a method to our madness (it's hard to see, but it's there).

History

Hopkins Comedy Club was started by three intrepid (bored) young students who wanted a club that would accept everybody (especially them) and where people could be themselves (and make naughty jokes).
These three students were and still are: Hank Greene, Patrick Genellie, and Jack Wanderman.

The club comes from humble origins, it was founded in the winter of 2006 and failed miserably. These dark times are a sore spot for the people who were there, and best left alone. But in the fall of '07 the three founders came together with a new resolve, a new plan, and a pocketful of dreams. Things were... bumpy to say the least. Practicing in a small room off of the music department the three were joined by others, who soon left for better things. When all hope was lost, when the night seemed darkest, the comedy club found the answer to their urgent and anxious prayers, Mrs. Garcia. Sara Garcia is the program's director at Hopkins High School and her management and organizational skills were just what the failing club needed to succeed. Within weeks of the first meeting, new faces were showing up at the weekly gathering and the club was part of the ComedySportz high school league, ready to compete.
